Not just for hounds.......
Dogs and other suitable pets are welcome at The Baskerville. If left in the bedrooms however, owners are asked to leave them on their own for short periods only and while they are on the premises. Owners must bring with them suitable bedding. Dogs on leads are allowed in the bar area and the garden where owners can enjoy food and a drink in the company of their pets. Water bowls are available. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant but may be left in the bedrooms during meal times.
Guests are asked not to exercise Fido in the garden. As noted below, there are many fine walks in Shiplake and the surrounding area. However, if there is an ‘accident’, owners are asked to clean up.
If you forget something, please ask a member of staff. We are here to help and have a supply of dog food, hygiene bags, bedding etc for emergencies. There is an outside hose for washing down muddy dogs and an American style dog crate suitable for puppies and small to medium dogs up to 23kg is available. A charge will be made for any extra cleaning or for damage caused. The local Veterinary Centre can be contacted on 01491 574490
The Baskerville is situated in a beautiful village and there are several designated footpaths around the village and along the river Thames. Turning right and crossing the railway line you can follow the Thames Path as far as Henley-on Thames. Turning left along Mill Road you come to Shiplake Lock and from there to Sonning and Reading along the Thames Path. The local train service to form Shiplake to Henley-on Thames or Reading also accepts dogs.
Packed lunches or larger picnics ordered the night before will be ready next morning for your walks and days out.
